History - When she was only eight years old, Akiko was involved in an accident, leaving her critically injured. After receiving an emergency surgery, Akiko was given a deck of Duel Monsters cards by one of the doctors as a reward for hanging on. This event would inspire Akiko to become a duelist. Akiko had an interest in Duel Monsters at a young age, which she had a natural talent for. She also created Duel Monsters concepts, including Elemental Hero Core, in order to lessen the burden of being alone. She became a fan of the technology produced by Leo Corp. at a very young age, and had sent fan letters to one of its programmers, Kuroto Dan, which had included ideas for new cards. Akiko would later go on to win numerous small tournaments under the alias of M. Sometime later, Akiko participated in a tournament and trained vigorously for it at the cost of her health. Following the incident, she decided to take a serious attitude in her entrance exam and pursue being a duelist.
